Vocal victory amidst tuneful talent
Take six students – two vocalists, two pianists, a horn player and a clarinettist. Add in the very best of musical talent from throughout the school and beyond, and a spectacular evening of entertainment and inspiration was provided at our second Young Musician of the Year contest.
The winner was chosen by audience vote after an expert panel gave their thoughts on each performance – which included last year’s winner Olivia Crozier. It was Milly who emerged victorious, singing Waiving through a Window from the Pasek & Paul musical Dear Evan Hansen.
There was however much more to the evening than the competitors’ excellent performances, offering something for all tastes. The Chamber choir performing Take That’s Said it All, followed Haydn’s Minuet from Symphony 104; A Million Dreams from the musical The Greatest Showman went side by side with our Radclefs acapella group singing Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself.
The school offers a growing and impressive choice of music groups for students to join, whether they enjoy singing or playing an instrument. The opportunity to perform in front of an audience is a great experience, developing confidence as well as skills.
As part of her winners prize, Milly will spend some time in a recording studio to record more of her songs.
