School celebrates World Book Day

A day being brilliant with books

Students and staff at The Radclyffe School celebrated World Book Day in style.

The school’s Author-in-Residence Mark Wright was in school, sharing ‘Heroes and Villains’ creative writing sessions with Year 8 English groups, and hosting a ‘Meet the Author’ session during lunchtime.

Year 7 students took part in an interactive broadcast ‘The Biggest Bookshow on Earth’ hosted by CBBC children’s TV presenters Dick & Dom. Students learned exactly what it takes to write and illustrate brilliant stories.

And enthusiastic readers in Year 7 logged on to a live webcast from author Michael Muchamore. Many students are entering Radio 2’s 500 word short story competition. Mark Wright gave them some top tips on producing really great work.

Throughout the day students who ‘Got Caught Reading’ were rewarded with prizes – a team of volunteers went around the school photographing anyone taking the chance to dip into a good read.

Members of staff and students shared the titles of ‘Books that Changed Their Life’ for an interactive display wall. Hundreds of contributions and comments were made on books that have made a big difference to them, or made them laugh, cry and think.

And there have been lots of book characters around school all day – from Dracula to Wally, Captain Hook to Noah!
