Tall tales with primary pupils and Book Clubbers

Author in residence spins scary stories

Our author in residence, Mark Wright shared some secrets of story writing with pupils from local primary schools this week. He also share his skills with groups of young writers from The Radclyffe School.

The special lessons gave the youngsters the chance to use their imaginations to create tall tales and splendid stories.

Children from Freehold, Christ Church and St Luke’s primaries visited the school to find out about the stories Mark has written and what inspired him to become a writer. Students from the Nurture Group then got an introduction to horror writing, based on Mark latest book, The Corridor.

To finish the week, Mark worked with Year 7 and 8 Book Club members. The Book Club gives students the opportunity to read through and discuss a chosen title each month.

Assistant Headteacher Dr Dave Burns said, “We’re very pleased to welcome Mark back into school to share his skills as a writer with many different groups of young learners. It’s a real pleasure to welcome primary pupils too so they can be inspired in their writing too.”
