Students show their head for business to win
Eight students from The Radclyffe School put their business skills to full effect, as they took the top prize in the Greater Manchester heat of the McBride Make it Enterprising Challenge.
The competition, held at the Norton Grange Hotel in Castleton on Thursday (4 October), brought together ten teams from across Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside. The Radclyffe School team, from Year 9, had to pitch their business idea to a ‘dragons’ den’-style panel of staff from Middleton-based McBride Ltd.
The team’s idea was to design and manufacture a multi-liquid dispenser for a sports gel product. The students took on varied roles including Finance, Design, Sales & Marketing, Logistics and Quality Control.
Year Manager Gail Thompson said, “We are all really proud of our students. Their pitch was brilliant and drew lots of positive comments from many of the teachers supporting other schools.”
The students, Emily Broome, Kinza Baig, Kieron Duggan, Darius Sajid, Olivia Wright, Tajmina Shibli, Harrison Radcliffe and Ellis Orchard, will now go forward to represent Greater Manchester at the National finals in June.
