Students speak out at ‘Viva Languages’ day
A group of our Year 8 students took the chance to sample new languages and think about what they might like to study, with a visit to the University of Manchester.
The ‘Viva Languages’ day was designed to inspire students to study languages. Supported by the university’s language undergraduates, the students had great fun role playing in Spanish in – a restaurant disaster and a wrestling match! They also enjoyed getting an introduction to some more unusual languages, including Russian and Arabic.
They also listened to a talk to answer the question, ‘Why study languages?’, offering information on the options they could study and the choice of career opportunities available.
Head of Modern Foreign Languages Joanne Parkes said, “The day gave our students an opportunity to experience real university life. They thoroughly enjoyed learning a new language and were a credit to the school, particularly due to their excellent acting skills.”
