We’ve won Sainsbury’s School Games Gold
No frankincense or myrrh, but The Radclyffe School is celebrating this Christmas with the award of the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Award.
The award is given to schools for their commitment to develop competition, school sport and PE. The school is amongst the first in Greater Manchester to achieve the Gold award, having previously achieved the Bronze and Silver levels.
Head of Boys’ PE Simon Mellor said, “To achieve the Gold level we ensure that all students have at least two hours of PE lessons each week, and at least half of our students take part in extracurricular sport each week.
“For our talented sports students we offer specific support so they can balance sporting commitments with school and home life, as well as to help them reach their sporting potential.”
Competitive sport has strong importance for the school whether during or outside lessons or against other schools, and both for our own students and together with local primary schools. The school maintains active links with local sports clubs, bringing sports coaches into school to enthuse and instruct students.
Encouraging participation in sport plays a vital role in developing young people’s health and fitness, and The Radclyffe School offers a broad variety of sporting opportunities to enable students to find activity they enjoy and can thrive at.
