Yellow School Buses

Children Under 16

Since May 2011 it has been compulsory for 11-16 year olds to carry an IGO card in order to obtain the child concessionary fare (half the full adult fare). Greater Manchester children aged under 11 can also apply for an IGO card, which is needed to purchase saver tickets e.g. System One Junior Bus Saver.

IGO cards cost £5 each and are valid until the 31st August AFTER the child turns 16, so they still get the full benefit of concessionary fares during year 11.

How to apply for an IGO Card

  • An application form needs to be completed and submitted together with one photograph and a photocopy of the proof of date of birth ie. Birth certificate or passport.
  • If proof of date of birth cannot be provided then the application form needs to be taken to the child’s school for them to stamp the form to confirm the details are correct.
  • The completed application form and proof of date of birth is sent to the FREEPOST address on the application form, together with the £5 fee.
  • Alternatively customers can take the form to any TfGM Travelshop for the form to be checked, take payment and then send for processing.

The IGO card is posted to the customer with 7-10 working days. If there is a problem with the application we will let the customer know.

Yellow School Buses

Yellow School Buses are a great way for children to travel to school.
They have been a big success throughout Greater Manchester since they were introduced in 2003, providing a safe, reliable and environmentally friendly alternative to the school run.

To be put on the Yellow Bus Scheme customers need to complete an application form on line at http://www.tfgm.com/buses/yellowschoolbus/Pages/default.aspx

There are a limited number of seats available on the Yellow School Bus services.
All applications are dealt with on a “first come, first served” basis.
If a seat is available on the service required a Yellow School Bus Pass is sent to the customer, to be used alongside their IGO card. If no seats are available the customer is informed and put on a waiting list for when one is available
