Requests for Leave of Absence

I am writing on behalf of the Local Authority (LA) to remind parent/carers of changes to the law regarding requests for leave of absence during the school term.

As of 1st September 2013, the law gives no entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any activity, holiday or event should be arranged during the 13 weeks of school closure. Leave of absence will have a detrimental impact on your child’s educational achievement.

If you are considering taking your child out of school, you are required to make an appointment to discuss your application. Please contact the Main School Office on 0161 622 3200.

Oldham LA have re-instated the Penalty Notice protocol from 11th September 2017. The LA reminds parent/carers that Penalty Notices are issued where 10 or more sessions of unauthorised absence is recorded on school registers (including family holidays in term time). Unpaid Penalty Notices will result in prosecution.
