Head Teacher's Message

I am delighted to welcome you to this short insight into our ‘outstanding’ world class school where I have adopted a simple maxim. “If it is not good enough for my own child, it is not good enough for students at The Radclyffe School”.

If you decide to entrust us with your child’s education, I am confident that your child will experience a first class education, within a twenty-first century learning environment, that is second to none.

Each student is taken on a learning journey of excellence, in every area of school life, by our outstanding and inspirational staff in unrivalled ‘state of the art’ facilities in our flagship school. ‘The Radclyffe Way’ is about saying to our students tell us about your dreams and we will help you fulfil them, there is no ceiling to your ambitions here.

We see information technology as a key tool for learning, with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy as preparation for the wider world. We also offer small group and individual tuition to enable students to exceed their targets and achieve the very top grades. The good learning habits we instil in our students, not only enables them to excel here but also provides for success at our sixth form college (Oldham Sixth Form College) and at university. Many visitors have commented upon the purposeful and friendly working atmosphere and the many opportunities within our school. I believe that this arises partly out of the commitment and approachable style of our highly qualified staff and partly out of the firm but fair discipline we maintain.

The transfer to secondary school can be worrying – for instance, children go to different classrooms in a larger building for specialist subjects. We make this transition seamless through the excellent relationship we have with our feeder primary schools. Moreover, our school is unique in allocating each child with a member of staff called their PLG (Personal Learning Guide) who meets 1:1 with them regularly. The fact that we keep the same PLG and Year Manager for each child during their time in school means that children soon settle into our school without any major issues. We rely on the support of parents – for instance in encouraging students to do homework – and we ask you to let us know if you have any concerns. In return we will keep you informed of your child’s progress and achievements. This partnership with parents to achieve high standards is summed up by our mission statement of “Working Together for Excellence”.

If you decide to entrust us with your child’s education, I am confident that your child will experience a first class education that enables them to excel and thrive. Please come to our Open Evening and judge for yourself. The staff and I look forward to working with you to help your child to achieve their own personal excellence in our outstanding school.

Yours faithfully,
H.S. Hayer B.A., M.A. (Ed) – Headteacher
